LE MILLE FACCE DELL’IMMIGRAZIONE.    di Mario Barbarisi

Il mondo dei “piccoli” media cattolici, già agli inizi degli anni 90, si interrogava sulla questione dell’immigrazione dal mar Mediterraneo. Si guardava all’ingresso nel Continente e ci si chiedeva se quel mare, visto da sud, fosse da considerare cerniera o frontiera dell’Europa. Ancora una volta la Cultura, rispetto alla politica, precorreva i tempi, grazie all’intuizione di un sacerdote, padre Alfio Inserra, fondatore e direttore del settimanale diocesano “Cammino” di Siracusa, che per la FISC, la Federazione dei Settimanali Cattolici, organizzava ogni anno in Sicilia dei Seminari di studio e di approfondimento su temi di attualità, rivolti ai direttori di Testata e ai giornalisti cattolici. L’Ordine dei Giornalisti, a quell’epoca, non aveva ancora istituito l’obbligo dei crediti formativi. Erano ancora lontani gli sbarchi a Lampedusa e nel resto della penisola, tuttavia le condizioni politiche e sociali del continente africano, lasciavano presagire ciò che successivamente, di lì a breve, si sarebbe verificato, fino ad arrivare ai giorni nostri. Cosa ne è stato di quella intuizione? Sul piano giornalistico si è trattato di un vero e proprio successo, non solo per aver anticipato l’importanza della formazione: ciascuno dei partecipanti è tornato in Redazione consapevole della necessità di informare i lettori e preparare all’accoglienza, perché l’aiuto, per ragioni umanitarie, non si può e non si deve negare a nessuno. Anche la visita dei Giornalisti a Malta, sempre negli stessi anni, ha contribuito, già allora, a comprendere meglio dove saremmo arrivati: un’isola dedita al turismo e all’economia da casinò e roulette non lascia spazio per gli ultimi. L’isola con il potabilizzatore idrico più grande d’Europa mostra tanta sete, oltre alla capacità di risolvere ogni problema, ma ha difficoltà a compiere il gesto più semplice: tendere le mani e raccogliere in mare i migranti di passaggio, costretti ad allungare il viaggio della speranza fino alle coste italiane di Lampedusa. Malta è un “paradiso fiscale” e non la terra di approdo per chi versa lacrime di dolore e miseria. Il Ministro maltese ha recentemente affermato che un aiuto avrebbe significato un precedente! Negli ultimi 15 anni nel Mediterraneo sono morti oltre 30mila migranti; non sappiamo se fossero tutti richiedenti asilo, non conosciamo i loro nomi e i loro volti,né le loro storie, ma è sufficiente sapere che dietro i numeri ci sono persone, vite spezzate a cui è stata negata la speranza. Il grido di dolore di Papa Francesco, che nel luglio del 2013 solcò il mare diventato cimitero lanciando una corona di fiori e pregando, è ancora vivo, lo abbiamo udito all’Angelus di domenica scorsa, quando il Pontefice ha chiesto ai governanti europei di non lasciare in mezzo al mare uomini, donne e bambini, ma di accogliere e prestare aiuto. Quanto accaduto in questi mesi dimostra che l’Europa è sorda, evidentemente unita per interessi economici, con al centro le banche, il danaro, ma non l’uomo! Ma c’è di più: la mancata accoglienza dimostra anche il fallimento della Chiesa, almeno quella del rinnovamento, gli appelli di Papa Francesco, rivolti ai vescovi e ai parroci, invitati a più riprese ad accogliere nelle Diocesi i migranti è caduto nel vuoto, salvo sporadiche eccezioni. A tutto ciò si aggiunge l’incapacità dei laici cattolici di collocare le proprie linee guida in politica, l’idea che i cattolici potessero dire la loro in ogni partito o movimento si è rivelata un vero fallimento. Le stesse intuizioni avute negli anni del post Concilio dai Media cattolici non hanno trovato alcun riscontro nei percorsi formativi delle Associazioni e nella gerarchia ecclesiastica: i la Pira e i Dossetti sono terminati, relegati nei libri di storia e, nella migliore delle ipotesi, assunti come modello, ispirazione per frasi e gesta, per poi magari fare l’esatto contrario.
Potremmo definire la situazione, oggettivamente molto grave, paragonabile ad un aereo che decolla senza un piano di volo: dove ci porterà questa Europa se i migranti, oltre che dal mare dovessero aumentare di numero ed incrementare la rotta dei Balcani? Ad oggi nessun focolaio di guerra può dirsi estinto. Libia, Siria, Afghanistan e Iraq, sono solo alcuni dei Paesi dove si continua a morire ogni giorno, mentre Europa e Stati Uniti continuano a produrre e vendere armi da guerra, ricevendo in cambio lauti guadagni economici a cui segue una strategia del terrore che inonda le principali città europee e i luoghi di interesse. Un fatto è certo: non viviamo in pace e, soprattutto, manca una visione di politica globale che faccia ben sperare per il futuro. Oltre al sommo pontefice nessuno dei leader mondiali, Stati Uniti, Russia, Cina, Giappone ed Europa affronta la questione delle povertà e dell’immigrazione secondo una visione di insieme, ognuno chiuso nei propri confini, come non accadeva da decenni.

The world of “small” Catholic media, already at the beginning of the 90s, questioned the issue of immigration from the Mediterranean Sea. One looked at the entrance to the Continent and wondered if that sea, seen from the south, was to be considered a hinge or a frontier of Europe. Once again Culture, compared to politics, preceded the times, thanks to the intuition of a priest, Father Alfio Inserra, founder and director of the diocesan weekly “Cammino” of Syracuse, which for the FISC, the Federation of Catholic Weeks, organized every year in Sicily of the Seminars of study and in-depth analysis on current issues, addressed to the directors of the Testata and to Catholic journalists. The Order of Journalists, at that time, had not yet established the obligation of training credits. The landings in Lampedusa and the rest of the peninsula were still far away, but the political and social conditions of the African continent left a foretaste of what would happen, shortly thereafter, to the present day. What happened to that intuition? On the journalistic level it was a real success, not only for having anticipated the importance of training: each of the participants returned to the Editorial Board aware of the need to inform readers and prepare for the reception, because the help, for humanitarian reasons, we can not and must not be denied to anyone. Even the journalists’ visit to Malta, also in the same years, has contributed, even then, to better understand where we would have arrived: an island dedicated to tourism and the casino and roulette economy leaves no room for the last ones. The island with the largest water purifier in Europe shows a lot of thirst, in addition to the ability to solve every problem, but has difficulty making the most simple gesture: stretch out hands and collect migrants passing through the sea, forced to lengthen the journey of hope to the Italian coast of Lampedusa. Malta is a “tax haven” and not the land of landing for those who shed tears of pain and misery The Maltese Minister has recently said that aid would have meant a precedent! To all this is added the inability of lay Catholics to place their guidelines in politics, the idea that Catholics could say their in every party or movement proved to be a real failure. The same intuitions had in the post-Council years from the Catholic media have not found any evidence in the formative paths of the Associations and in the ecclesiastical hierarchy: the Pira and the Dossetti are finished, relegated to the history books and, at best, assumed as a model , inspiration for phrases and deeds, then maybe do the exact opposite.
We could define the situation, objectively very serious, comparable to a plane that takes off without a flight plan: where will this Europe take us if the migrants, as well as the sea should increase in number and increase the Balkan route? To date, no outbreak of war can be said to be extinct. Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq are just some of the countries where they continue to die every day, while Europe and the United States continue to produce and sell war weapons, receiving in return the rich economic gains followed by a strategy of terror that inundates the main European cities and places of interest. One fact is certain: we do not live in peace and, above all, we lack a vision of global politics that makes us hope for the future. In addition to the Supreme Pontiff, none of the world leaders, the United States, Russia, China, Japan and Europe deals with the issue of poverty and immigration according to an overview, each closed within its own borders, as it has not been for decades.
